Now the father entered again. In the guise of the man with the golden beard he appeared to the erring and therefore despaired son and he taught him the fulfilment of duty. He gave the child a task he should accomplish in all earnestness: the king's son should watch over the purity of the golden source and protect it from contamination. “To maintain the purity of the original, golden source of truth and to guard the creative power that springs from it, is the office of the king.
