“The
way to cosmic freedom is paved by the systematic unfoldment of the seven
main states of consciousness in the individual. “The first main state of consciousness is sleep. In a natural manner all activity unfolds from rest, and in the same way all consciousness grows from sleep; and the deep-blue warriors whom the cow Savala produces with her supernormal powers at first, are the sovereigns over the laws of the silence who rule the deep sleep. “These deep-blue warriors cause a reduction of activity in every soldier of Helgi's army: they cause the breath to become more flat, thinking to become refined, and a deep rest in all bodily functions; in that manner the soldiersi senses, that are unpractised on the finer levels of cognition, are systematically excluded from outer perception and thus freed from their outer bondage to the objects of the senses. Therefore every soldier falls into deep sleep. “The statesman here activates the forces of natural fulfilment of duty on the way to cosmic unfoldment. This force of cosmic duty is a mighty force of nature known within the individuals as their will of life. King Helgi stirs his soldiers out of their deep rest again and urges them to new action in the field of their individual unfoldment. “Then the cow Savala creates with her supernormal forces two new groups of deep-blue warriors so dark and yet so bright, like the pitch-dark night flashed through by lightning. These warriors are armed with keen hatchets. “And when the soldiers are roused from their deep, dark sleep and wake up - and when their attention goes to these new warriors, they get confused completely and Don't know anymore if they are dreaming or waking. “This
is the reality of life in the relative states of consciousness. “In
waking consciousness we hear, in waking consciousness we feel, in waking
consciousness we see, in waking consciousness we taste and smell: all
sensory perception is available to us in waking consciousness; but is
it different in dreaming consciousness? Again we hear, feel, see, taste
and smell. In waking consciousness we make the experience of walking through the forest, enjoying the warmth of the sun and the blossoming flowers on the green meadow; and the chirping of the birds rings pleasantly in our ears - yet the same experience we can also make in our dreaming consciousness. “Thus it happens that at some time we think we are dreaming during the day, and in the night, when we rest and dream, we are often convinced that it is presently an experience of the waking consciousness - this false conclusion makes our dream so dramatic and emotionally adventuresome. “Through the two new groups of warriors whom the cow Savala produces, the soldiers of the king, on the basis of their personal experience, are very spontaneously given the insight that - coming out of deep sleep - they cannot really judge over waking or dreaming consciousness: that they do not know with full certainty whether they are waking or dreaming. “The ignorant who knows only these three main states of consciousness, namely waking, dreaming and deep sleep, will hardly make this spontaneous insight into the uncertain reality of all his experiences; by an old habit he hardly thinks about it whether at a certain moment he is actually waking or dreaming; and in deep sleep there is anyway no room left for any cognition since he is like torpid. |
